Newton's first law is often referred to as the law of inertia – inertia is an object's tendency to resist changes in motion.
When a car brakes quickly, the passenger will be thrown forward because inertia (the tendency to remain unchanged) tries to keep the passenger moving.
Law 2: The alteration of motion is ever proportional to the motive force impress'd; and is made in the direction of the right line in which that force is impress'd.
Because the mass of each ball is different, each ball will travel a different distance and at a different speed when it is hit with the same force.
Law 3: To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction: or the mutual actions of two bodies upon each other are always equal, and directed to contrary parts.
Air is pushed out of the neck of the balloon but the balloon reacts in the opposite direction by moving upwards.
